This week we’re pleased to hear that Affordable Equity Partners out of Missouri is planning to build a $ 9 million affordable senior housing facility in the Harristown neighborhood.
Although this project was approved in early spring, it recently reached the next step when the state of Georgia approved the needed tax credits to make the project a reality.
The new facility, which should break ground by next fall, will feature between 60 and 70 units and rental payments could start as low as $175 per month.
The new housing will be for lower-income residents over the age of 55.
The Covington City Council deserves a great deal of praise for their foresight in planning such a building in this community.
Not only does the new housing development make it possible for struggling seniors to have affordable housing, it brings a new sparkle to an area of town that needs a new lease on life.
