It’s second nature for some people to give of themselves, and thank goodness for them. They’re the people who teach a Sunday school class of middle schoolers, lead a Brownie troop, stock shelves at a food bank or take a plastic bag along with them on a walk so they can clean up the trash by the roadside.

They’re the people who make the world a little better every day, and we are grateful for their actions.

Susanna Roberts is one such big-hearted person.

She’s the owner of OHSUSANNAS Grooming and Hillbilly Pets on Almon Road, and she’s also one of our community’s Hometown Heroes.

We honored Roberts on Wednesday for her efforts to feed the hungry and groom pets for free for people in need. She staged a Pets and People in Need Party in November and gave 147 meals away and groomed 53 pets. You can read about her at Covnews.com.

Through Hometown Heroes, we’ve honored everyday folks in our community who give of themselves and make Newton County a better place. Roberts and our other honorees from the past year will be eligible in January for our Hometown Hero of the Year Award. The winner will be decided through a reader vote. Watch for more on the award in coming weeks.
