Our Thoughts: Giving thanks in advance

Families across Newton County are already busy making plans for Thanksgiving. For many, those plans involve who is going to serve as host this year, and who is going to bring the pumpkin pie.

But there are thousands of people who can’t afford a Thanksgiving feast or have no family with whom to share the holiday.

They need your help.

The Community Food Pantry and the Newton County Ministers’ Union are preparing to feed the needy again this year. You can help with a monetary donation or a contribution of food to the food bank.

They’re in need of gallons of corn, green beans, potatoes, eggs, drink mix, turkeys, cranberry sauce and napkins. They also need homemade desserts like cupcakes or pies to complete a meal.

Demand is heavy throughout the year, especially in these trying times. Stocks were running low at the pantry on a recent visit.

You can drop off donations at the pantry at 7125 Turner Lake Circle from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Mondays and Thursdays and from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesdays and Fridays. Call (770) 784-0037.
