The local Newton County Chamber of Commerce and The Covington News teamed up in the presidential election two years ago to present a well received debate between local political hopefuls.

This year, another debate is planned for Oct. 14 at the Turner Lake conference center.

We will be presenting information about the event in upcoming issues of The News.

The debate will start at 6:30 p.m. and will cover all the local races from the state level of senate to the run for Board of Education seats.

The Chamber and the News are also working on having the gubernatorial hopefuls come to town to debate on Oct. 7.
