In a special called meeting, the Newton County Board of Commissioners met and actually did the right thing Tuesday.
Unanimously, they admitted they were wrong in agreeing to give a five-year contract, first, without bid and, second, without adequately vetting the contractor, who was the recipient of the contract.
In doing so, the Board of Commissioners rescinded their previous decision.
It’s encouraging to see this action. In the past, there has been a certain bullheadedness that would not have made right an error.
We applaud the commissioners for righting this wrong in this instance.
We are sure in the future, as a result of this action, anyone who applies for a contract will know they have to go through a proper bidding process dictated by county rules and certainly, they will know they will have to have a proper permit to operate in our county.
