Our thoughts... An absurd idea

The request to build a drag strip in Social Circle was put on temporary hiatus this week as drag strip developer Donnie Clack withdrew his request to build the project — for now.

He has promised to reapply for a permit again at a later date after more research and planning.

We appreciate the fact that Mr. Clack has tried to alter his original site plan in order to please the folks who do not want the track at all, but quite frankly, we are going to stay opposed to the idea of having the drag strip anywhere in the vicinity of the proposed location.

A more pressing concern of this board is the news that state Rep. Doug Holt (R-Social Circle) has plans to introduce legislation that would force the city of Social Circle to give back to Newton County the land they annexed in 2008.

No state should force one municipality to give land to another.

Rep. Holt comes across as a big bully for even suggesting such an absurd notion.

He needs to stand down and focus on problems plaguing the entire state rather than interfere in the business of Social Circle and Newton County.
