Keeping his word, working with others

Sen. John Douglas promised last year that he would have legislation passed that would help protect school children from sexual predators.

He sponsored Senate Bill No. 14, which would prohibit anyone who is on a national or state sex offender registry from serving on local school boards.

The bill passed the state Senate earlier this year and, after being introduced into the House this past week by State Rep. Doug Holt, passed with flying colors by a vote of 161-1.

We urge Gov. Perdue to sign this amendment when it officially hits his desk.

We are pleased that Sen. Douglas kept his word and we also are pleased to see the cooperation that brought this bill to the governor's desk by our own Sen. Douglas and Rep. Holt.
