There’s a young deputy with the Newton County Sheriff’s Office that has a nose for trouble.

And when a toddler wandered off recently into woods behind her home, that young deputy was called in and found his man, er, tot.

Pete the Bloodhound is a K-9 Deputy. Thanks to the quick work of Pete and his partner, Deputy Chad Hunt, tragedy was averted and a life was saved. You can read more about Pete and Deputy Hunt on Page 1.

For his good work, we’re naming Pete one of our Hometown Heroes. For the past year, we’ve been honoring everyday people in the community who make Newton County a better place to live. Pete is our first four-footed hero. He’ll be eligible like our other winners for the Hometown Hero of the Year award. You’ll have a chance soon to help us pick our Hero of the Year for 2010. Watch for details.
