Good decisions

Recently the Newton County Board of Commissioners voted to allow more types of businesses to locate at the Stanton Springs industrial site, located at the interstate 20 interchange at exit 101.

The Stanton Springs site was designed to attract multi-use businesses that would attract clean industry and would significantly increase the tax base of the county and bring needed employment to the area.

Unfortunately, the Stanton Springs project has been a victim of the economic downturn.

The commissioners made a wise and prudent decision to expand the scope of business that can locate to this park.

We hope their decision will open the door for development finally to begin at this project, and when it happens, it will mean that Newton County and the surrounding area just might be starting to improve its economic outlook for the future.

This development will also allow the master plan that was designed for that area of the county finally to be put in motion again.

This action by the commissioners sets the ball in motion for that to happen.
