There has been considerable time and effort put in to the Salem road overlay plan over the years.
The plan’s whole concept is to upgrade the area and make it more attractive to live and to operate a business in.
Because of this plan there was a major push to have a liquor-by-the-drink ordinance in place in order to attract first-class restaurants. The idea is that the restaurants would benefit the residents of the whole county by increasing the tax base in a profitable manner.
Although we don’t see much public effort being made to accomplish this, maybe there is some behind-the-scenes efforts that are occurring that we haven’t seen.
In any case, we are more than pleased to see that the board of commissioners turned down the request to place a used car lot in the area, but we are confused why they would allow a title loan business to open in that district.
Having this business in that district will do nothing to attract larger, more desirable businesses there.
We don’t need additional Waffle Houses or fast food places in that area, and we surely don’t need a predator business like a title loan company going there.
