Today at 4:30 p.m. is the deadline for interested candidates to throw their hats in for the municipal elections in all of our cities in Newton County and in Social Circle.

As of this morning, we are more than disappointed at the slow turnout of potential candidates.

If ever we needed intelligent and fair community-minded people to run for elected office, it is now.

We encourage anybody who has felt that his or her leadership could bring about positive change to take the time to register to run.

Look deep inside and think. Do you have the strength of leadership to bring positive change to our cities and counties? If you do, we encourage you to put your name on the ballot. Your action may be the catalyst to help lead us out of current economic malaise.

Just remember, time is running out.
