Don't drink and drive

Tonight is generally considered a night of fun and revelry as people gather to celebrate the end of one year and the start of another. It's a night that sane people sometimes do unsafe things.

It's also a night when people sometimes have a few more toasts of the toddy than they usually do.

That is all well and good if you intend to celebrate either at home, or if you're fortunate enough to have a friend to accompany you whose strongest drink will be a soda.

In this country today, there is a zero tolerance for drunk and reckless drivers.

The police will be out all over our county with roadblocks, traffic checks and routine patrols. If you choose to drive impaired, the chances of you being pulled over are extremely high.

If you get caught, you will be arrested, you will pay a heavy fine and your name will appear in this paper.

It is not worth you jeopardizing your job, ruining your credit and enduring the humiliation of going to jail, for having a few drinks too many.

We suggest that before you go to a bar tonight, ask if they have the ability to ferry you home without your driving. You could take along designated driver or even catch a cab. If you cannot control yourself, give your keys in advance to someone who can.

We want you to enjoy yourself, but do it smartly.
