There is almost nothing worse when living in a county that is blessed with so many natural beauties — especially at this time of year — and see the litter that uncaring people have tossed everywhere.
We also talk proudly of our many tourists and the prospects we have for new business, but seeing this litter on our public roads does not leave a great impression of our community
Included in this litter are whole bags of trash split open and blown in the wind.
Recently we rode around the county to see for ourselves the condition of our major roads and by-ways and quite frankly we were shocked that there seems to be more trash on the side of the roads than usual. In some places it looks like we might live in a third world country where there is no regard, except in some tourist areas, to pick up trash.
This weekend you and your family have an opportunity to show some pride in the fact that you live in such a green and beautiful county.
This weekend the city of Porterdale and the Keep Covington/Newton Beautiful group are teaming up to celebrate the Great America Cleanup Day.
If you would like to participate meet at B.C. Crowell Park at 9 a.m. sharp, wear closed toe shoes and long pants.
For your efforts you will be fed a free breakfast and given T-shirts and clean up supplies.
Show your community spirit and get involved and plan a great family day enjoying the beauty that is Newton County.
