While we're encouraged the county budget is increasing, we need to hear more about the proposed revenues before we're comfortable fully supporting an increase of nearly $650,000 from last year.
Our property tax base is decreasing by $1.9 million, but county officials say increased sales tax and increased insurance premium tax revenue will make up the difference.
Frankly, we've never heard of the insurance premium tax, and we'd like to know more detail about a revenue stream that's increasing from $2.2 million to $3.47 million.
In addition, other various revenues are expected to bridge the $650,000 increase, leaving no need to ask for a millage rate increase. After the bloodbath of the past couple of years, this seems like a miracle.
During the next month we'll make sure to explain to you how less equals more.
