We have had some great news here in Newton County this past week for sure.

The Baxter announcement tops the list.

However, we don't want the official opening of the new Newton College and Career Academy to slip by without a positive editorial comment.

As important as having a new industry come to our county is, in our opinion, the most important concern we should have is the continued improvement of our education system.

We feel that emphasis on improvement over the last two years lead to the opening of the Newton career academy. We feel it will be a special addition that will contribute to the system's continued improvement.
We have watched with amazement how the Rockdale Career Academy has been such a strong partner in the improvement of our neighbor's education system.

Our academy will open with 18 career pathways for students to choose from.

The academy offers state of the art equipment and hands-on work experience for students.

We have no doubt as time passes the whole Newton community will be as proud of having the career academy as we are of having Baxter International join us and become part of the fabric of our county.
