Update: The informational meeting has been moved from April 7 to April 29 at 5:30 p.m. It is tentatively scheduled to be held at city hall.
There recently has been some major contention regarding the city and county's attempt to buy some railroad land that traverses the city and county.
Some of the pushback is because some residents are against a plan to put walking and riding trails on the property in question.
That is an issue that can be debated later.
The railroads rarely ever make their property available for public purchase. We feel that the county and city officials should make every effort to purchase this land before some outside force comes in and snatches it out from underneath us.
Tonight there is an informational meeting at 5:30 p.m. at Covington City Hall regarding factors involved in purchasing the land. Public comments will not be taken, however.
Please make plans to attend so you can arm yourself with facts when formulating your opinion of the railroad purchase. We feel this land purchase is essential to the future controlled growth of our city and county.
