A special celebration

Newton County Schools are losing a very special teacher of 30 years to retirement later this month, Pam Dew.

She's an adaptive physical education teacher, working with special needs children. For 23 years, she's also coordinated Newton County's Special Olympics.

That's a lot of smiles and hugs and a lot of lives brightened that she's been responsible for over the years.

For her hard work and dedication, Dew is one of our Hometown Heroes. You can read Education Reporter Amber Pittman's profile of Dew beginning on Page 1 of today's newspaper. See a video of Dew online at covnews.com.
Since last year, we've been honoring everyday people such as Dew who make Newton County a better place to live.

She'll be eligible like our other winners for the Hometown Hero of the Year award in early 2012.

We're always looking for more heroes in our community. Nominate someone who makes a difference in our community by calling Editor Tharon Giddens at (678) 750-5011, or send an email to tgiddens@covnews.com
