A proud moment

On Wednesday, visitors from around the state involved with tourism and business development converged on Covington. They were treated to a chamber day and a group of smiling volunteers who were willing to shepherd them around the Covington Square.

We were part of that volunteer group and we were again amazed at the pride that folks have in our community. We shouldn't have been, though, because we have seen and felt this pride and determination in almost every activity that occurs here.

Our county chairman, Kathy Morgan, rode on with the group from Covington,, as they visited Monroe, Madison and Athens. She told us that the group was more than impressed with our community. They were even more impressed with the cooperation of both the city and county governments.

We have been proud of this community for the past 146 years, today when things sometimes seem the toughest is when our people shine the brightest.

We have never been prouder in flying the Covington News flag.
