Dear Editor: On Jan. 22, the C.A.R.E. committee (a non-profit organization) held a silent auction in Porterdale to raise funds to assist the needy families of Porterdale. This was our first event like this and we really didn't know what to expect; however it turned out great as well as a lot of fun and it is all because the business owners and individuals in Porterdale and Newton County that stepped up to help us.

We would sincerely like to say thank you to all who helped in so many ways to make this a success.

First, Walter Davis donated the space for us and Charles and Beverly Turner worked very hard helping us with the entire event. Anita and Larry Denny for our entertainment for the evening.

Some of the businesses that donated items were Van-Go's studio, The Oaks Golf Course, Pbg, Emma Elaine Photography, Sigman Bottle shop, and Burnie's Bar-B-Q, as well as local artist Arline Chapman, Kay Hill, Ehan Nichols, Tina Reed, and many individuals.

If I have left out anyone please forgive me. We really do appreciate everyone's help. We look forward to our next auction and seeing all of you again.
