Letter: A comment on the Covington Square statue
Letters

Covington News Editor,

We cannot change history no matter how hard we try. We should not try to hide history, but use it as a measure of how far we have progressed. An MLK statue was recently unveiled at the capital and I support adding statues to reflect everyone’s heritage and to explain how history fits together.  This is a much better solution than removing the remembrance of a particular heritage. Removing the statue in the square does harm to the heritage and ancestry of a great many in Newton County and will aggravate race relations without improving anyone’s position. I further urge our politicians of all parties to stop using divisive language to further their political careers at the expense of our race relations.
