There is no question that we have had one hot and steamy summer. It's a summer that has put a financial squeeze on many of our local residents as the costs to keep cool have been almost as unbearable as the summer heat.
There might be a promise of some relief on the way. If you were up early Friday morning and had the opportunity to go outside, you would have noticed that there was a slight touch of fall in the morning air.
But until the temperatures cool off, there's something you need to keep in mind. We have talked about this before, and it deserves mention again: please take care with your children if you have them in your car and you are rushing from place to place. Take the time to unbuckle their seatbelts and take them with you whenever you leave your car, even if it is for a few minutes.
In this heat, it doesn't take long for your little ones to have their temperatures rise to the killing point.
Also, please be kind to your animals. Make sure they have plenty of water and provide them with as much shade as possible.
Enjoy the rest of your summer, and don't let a dumb mistake ruin you or your family's life.
