William Roy Aiken Jr. (Bill) died peacefully with his family on April 29, 2011. He was born in Covington, GA on May 31, 1928. He was the only child of W. Roy Aiken and Florrie Aiken of Covington. Bill attended Heard Mixon School as a young child and later graduated with a M.S. degree from University of Georgia. He also attended Abraham Baldwin doing his undergraduate studies. He retired from the U.S. Army in 1986 achieving the rank of Colonel. He later went on to teach 5th grade at Heard Mixon Elementary school where he retired again after 16 years in 2005. In 2002 he was selected as Newton County Teacher of the Year a deserving award that thousands of children benefited from his dedication to excellence. He was also active in advancing 4-H and D.A.R.E programs at Heard Mixon. Bill was a life time member of Red Oak United Methodist church of Covington, GA achieving a life time perfect attendance award. Bill had a life long love for the military serving in numerous locations around the world. His favorite being the Presidio, San Francisco, CA The visitation is planned for Tuesday, May 3, 2001 from 5-8 PM at the Wheeler Funeral Home, 11405 Browns Bridge Road, Covington, GA 770-786-7111. The funeral service is Wednesday, May 4, 2011 at 4:00 PM at Red Oak United Methodist Church, Covington, GA, and Pastor Miguel Velez officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.  Bill is preceded in death by his daughter Allison Michelle Aiken. He is survived by his life long loving partner of 62 years Barbara Greer Aiken of Jackson, GA He is also survived by his sons Ron Aiken and his wife Sherri Aiken of Covington,  Tim Aiken and his wife Pam Aiken of Covington,  daughter Susan Robbins and Mark Slaughter of Covington, six grandchildren Chad Aiken of Covington, Ashlyn Aiken of Covington, Greer Aiken and his wife Leah Aiken of Macon,GA., Jason Robbins and his wife Nancy Robbins of Conyers, GA, Andrea Robbins Delacruz and her husband George Delacruz of Covington, and Sarah Laine Slaughter of Covington two step grandchildren Cindy Dollander and her husband Mike Dollander of Watkinsville, Garand Alan Dismute and his wife Laurie Dismute of Albany, GA, . Three great-grandchildren, Dillon Robbins, Tristan Delacruz, and Liam Delacruz and tree step great-grandchildren Drayton, Paine and Addie Kate Dollander and numerous members of extended family.
