William Bruce Henderson passed away Monday, November 17, 2014. Bill was born in Athens, Alabama to the late Merle and James Henderson. He is preceded in death by six siblings.

He is survived by his wife of 64 years Mary Kimbrough Henderson of Covington; sons William L. Henderson of Seabrook, Texas; Randall W. Henderson and daughter-in-law Janna of West Monroe, Louisiana; two granddaughters Taylor Henderson and Hayley Henderson. Mr. Henderson is also survived by his sister Juanita Bolton of Athens, Alabama. and many nieces and nephews.

He was a Navy veteran of WWII, joining the service while in high school and was on the Pacific when the war ended. Mr. Henderson graduated from Georgia Tech in Chemical Engineering in 1953. After graduation he was employed by Phillips Petroleum Company in Texas and while employed with Phillips he had a patent accepted.

He joined Hercules in 1967 and came to the Covington plant in 1968 and stayed until his retirement in 1992. Mr. Henderson then went to work for the EPA in Atlanta retiring again in 2006.

He was a member of Covington First United Methodist Church for more than 46 years and Christian Fellowship Sunday School Class and also was a member of the Senior Saints Choir. He was past Chairman of the Board and also past Mission Chairman. He made a Mission trip to Honduras. Mr. Henderson was a member of the Covington Lions Club and was a past President honored with the Melvin James Award, the highest award presented by the Lions Club.

Funeral services will be held Monday, Nov. 24, 2014 at 11 a.m. at Covington First United Methodist Church with Dr. Doug Gilreath officiating. The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service. Inurnment will be at Ga.

National Cemetery Tuesday, Nov. 25, 2014. The family requests in lieu of flowers that donations be made to Covington First United Methodist Church Food Pantry in honor of Bill Henderson.
