W. D. (Bill) Ivey, of Social Circle, died October 16, 2009, at Newton Medical Center, at the age of 85. Son of the late Charles David and Maggie Mae Ivey, he retired from Southern Bell after 40 years of service. Mr. Ivey served in the Marine Corp during World War II, was a member of General Ray Davis Metal of Honor Marine Corp Detachment League #1188 and enjoyed any Marine Corp activities. He also enjoyed woodworking and spending time with his grandchildren. Mr. Ivey will be remembered as a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He was preceded in death by daughter, Susan Ivey Gay. Survivors include his wife, Frances Ivey of Social Circle; daughters and sons-in-law, Joanne and Emil Caldwell of McDonough, Fran Berger of McDonough, Steve and Belinda Gay of Social Circle; son and daughters-in-law, David and Regina Ivey of Rex, Sandra Ivey of Social Circle; grandchildren, Amanda and Glen McCullough, Brandon Gay, Jacqueline and Amos Batts, Joseph Caldwell, Joy Caldwell, Ian Caldwell, Jennifer Berger, Ashleigh Ivey; great-grandchildren, Bailey Blake, Caelyn Batts; niece, Ellen Steckel of Panama City, FL. Funeral services for Mr. Ivey will be held on Monday, October 19, 2:00 PM at Covington First Presbyterian Church, with Rev. Billy Wade officiating and interment following in Westview Cemetery in Atlanta. The family will receive friends at Caldwell & Cowan Funeral Home, 1215 Access Road, Covington, on Sunday, October 18, from 2-5 PM.
