Vida Mae Smith, of Conyers, died August 18, 2009, at Covington Manor Nursing Home, at the age of 88. Daughter of the late Jacob and Lovie Rutherford Smith, she was a member of Landmark Baptist Church in Covington. Mrs. Smith loved nature and enjoyed bird watching, singing and playing the guitar, and collected angels. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Mrs. Smith was preceded in death by her husband, Alfred Earl Smith. Survivors include daughters and son-in-law, Betty and Bobby Bennett, Priscilla Richards, all of Covington; sons and daughter-in-law, Hollis E. and Carolyn Smith of Conyers, Michael Earl Edward Smith, Randy L. Smith both of Covington; grandchildren, Pamela and William Kirkland II, Gene Smith, Angela McMickle; great-grandchildren, Brittany Crowe, Kelli McMickle, William Kirkland III. Funeral services for Mrs. Smith will be held on Friday, August 21, 7:00 PM, at the chapel of Caldwell & Cowan Funeral Home, 1215 Access Rd., with Rev. Dewey Fisher and Rev. Frank Nichols officiating and a private interment in Green Meadow Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday, August 20, from 6-9 PM.
