Thomas James Robinson died July 14. The son of the late Leo and Esther Shifflet Robinson, he was born in 1934 in Anderson County, S.C. He was preceded in death by sisters Fannie Rucker, Gertude Johnson and Mattie Robinson; he was also preceded in death by a step-daughter Delilah Reed, and a nephew John Robinson. Mr. Robinson was educated in the Anderson, S.C., public school system. In 1953, he enlisted in the Army where he served his country until his honorable discharge in 1956.

Mr. Robinson, affectionately called "TJ," accepted Christ at an early age and joined Mt. Sinai United Methodist Church, serving faithfully until he moved to Philadelphia, Pa. There he joined the Non-Sectarian Church of God where he played the piano with the male chorus. Mr. Robinson married Frances Reed Robinson and to this union four daughters were born. Many years later, in 1992, Mr. Robinson moved to Covington and married Gwendolyn Smith Robinson. He lived in Covington until he was called home to be with the Lord.
Always a hard worker, Mr. Robinson worked in Central Sterile Supply at Jefferson Hospital in Philadelphia, Pa. After moving to Covington, he worked as a technician at the Newton Medical Center.

Mr. Robinson quietly departed this earth to rest in the arms of our Heavenly Father, after losing his battle to renal failure.

He leaves to mourn his passing his loving wife Gwendolyn Robinson; his daughters Sheryl Robinson of Herndon, Va., Jacqueline Coger of Covington, Darlene (James) Thomas of Aldan, Pa., and Thomasina Johnson of Dacula; step-children Talib Abu-Sufyaan-Smith of Jersey City, N.J., and Theresa Smith of Covington; grandsons Jeffrey Robinson, Isaiah Thomas and Trevor Johnson; sister Betty Goudlock of Hesperia, Calif; brother Harry Robinson of Anderson, S.C.; mother-in-law Margaret Hall; sisters-in-law Peggy (the Rev. Renard) Hardin, Dorothy Borden and Betty (Eric) Strawbridge; brothers-in-law Sylvern (Teresa) Hall and Arthur (Mamie) Hall; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, including Derrick and Kevin, and friends.

Funeral services for Mr. Thomas James "TJ" Robinson will be held at 11 a.m. today, July 20 at Young Memorial Chapel, 3106 West St., Covington. The Rev. Franklin Sperars will be the eulogist and be assisted by the Rev. Lonnie Robinson. Burial will follow at the Georgia Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Milledgeville.
