Thomas Richard Rawlins, of Social Circle, died February 21, 2009, at the age of 67. Son of the late Thomas E. and Eva Clower Rawlins, he was a very active member of First Baptist Church of Covington, where he was Past Chairman of the Board of Deacons and was currently serving as a member. He also taught Sunday school for the youth and adults, and was a member of the Sanctuary choir. Mr. Rawlins was Past President and member of Covington Kiwanis and served on the Governing Board of Directors of Newton Medical Center. He was a graduate of Stone Mountain High School and GA State University and later served in Germany in the U. S. Army after receiving his commission as Second Lieutenant from ROTC from GA State. Mr. Rawlins was an avid Lionel model train collector and was a member of Train Collectors Association (TCA). He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend, who was always there for everyone who needed him. He was a Christian man who was exemplary in his service to his family, church and community. Survivors include his wife, Betty Pollock Rawlins of Social Circle; sons and daughter-in-law, Charles T. and Linda R. Rawlins, Gregory R. Rawlins all of Social Circle; grandchildren, Stephenie Ivy and Aaron D. Thacker; great-grandchild, McKenna Ivy Thacker; sister, Jacolyn Smith of Griffin; nephew, Andy Smith of Atlanta. Funeral services for Mr. Rawlins will be held Monday, February 23, 11:00 AM, at First Baptist Church of Covington, with Rev. Jason Dees and Rev. Jack Wilson officiating and interment following in Lawnwood Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at Caldwell & Cowan Funeral Home, 1215 Access Road, Covington, Sunday, February 22, from 5-8 PM.
