Thomas C. Bennett Sr., died December 11, 2010, at his home in Covington. Mr. Bennett was born in Atlanta, Georgia on Gilbert Street to the late Lewis and Ruth Bennett on May 20, 1929. He worked for the Georgia Railroad for 43 years, and with his brothers owned Bennett Brothers Service Station in East Atlanta for 25 years. Thomas was the youngest of six children, Emma, Jack, Marion, Charles and Earl, all of whom preceded him in death. Survivors include his wife of almost 61 years, Margaret Bates Bennett; daughter and son-in-law, Lee and Bill Wright, of Athens; son, Thomas Conway Bennett, Jr., of Decatur; Granddaughters: Shelby L. Wright of Athens, Wendy and Gary Risse of Atlanta; sister-in-law, Teeny Bennett; brother-in-law C.L. Adams; and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral Services for Mr. Bennett will be held at 11:00 AM, Monday, December 13, 2010, at the Chapel of Caldwell & Cowan Funeral Home, 1215 Access Road, Covington, with interment following in Lawnwood Memorial Park, Covington. Flowers are acceptable, or donations in memory of Mr. Bennett may be made to Zion Baptist Church, 7037 Highway 212, Covington, GA 30014.
