Thelma Hawkins, of Covington, passed away July 6, 2017, at 93 years of age. A lifelong resident of Porterdale and Covington, Mrs. Hawkins was devoted to her family. In addition to listening to southern gospel music, she liked to be outdoors camping and fishing. Mrs. Hawkins was preceded in death by her husband, Albert Benion Hawkins, daughter, Ann Wilson; son, Gary “Buddy” Hawkins;and her parents, William Hite and Nanny Mae (Porterfield) Bowen; sisters, Nellie Fox, Lorraine Scarbrough; and brother, Brady Bowen.
Survivors include her daughter, Brenda Bunn, of Covington; six grandchildren, several great-grandchildren; sister, Margeret Johnson, of Covington; brother, Joel Bowen, of Mississippi; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
A Funeral Service for Mrs. Hawkins will be held Sunday, July 9, 2017, 2 p.m., at the Chapel of Caldwell & Cowan Funeral Home, 1215 Access Road, in Covington, with Rev. Jimmy Hammond and Pastor Mike Farmer officiating. Interment will follow in Lawnwood Memorial Park. Friends may visit with the family, at the funeral home, Saturday, July 8, from 6 – 8 p.m.
