SFC (Retired) Thomas E. Watts, of Covington, died February 25, 2009, at Gwinnett Medical Center, at the age of 67. Son of the late Jessie Watts, he was a native of Sumter County, Georgia and graduated from Union High School in Leslie, GA. Mr. Watts served in the U. S. Army for 25 years, with two tours of duty in Vietnam and in Germany and received the Purple Heart and Bronze Star while serving in Vietnam. He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting and fishing. Survivors include daughters and sons-in-law, Leah (DeDe) and Richard Carnes of Covington, Sue and Brian West of Rutledge; son and daughter-in-law, Johnny (Flip) and Donna Sessums of Covington; grandchildren, Tabitha Sessums Spurling, Tamara Sessums, Johnny Sessums, Thomas Johnson, Miranda Johnson, Greg Carnes, Ryan Carnes, Brandi West, Sammy West, Jeremy Shearer, Ashley Shearer; nine great-grandchildren; mother, Geraldine Watts of Americus; brother, Butch Watts of Albany; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services for Mr. Watts will be held Saturday, February 28, 2:00 PM, at the chapel of Caldwell & Cowan, 1215 Access Road, with Rev. Matt Alexander officiating. The family will receive friends at Caldwell & Cowan Funeral Home, Saturday, February 28, from 11:30 - 1:30 PM.
