Sarah Elizabeth Day Sears, of Covington, died January 5, 2009, at Dekalb Medical Center, at the age of 87. Daughter of the late Columbus Yancey and Annie Elizabeth Hackett Day, Mrs. Sears was a wonderful cook and cake decorator as well as a talented seamstress. She was very artistic and enjoyed arts and crafts. Mrs. Sears was a faithful Christian and Sunday school teacher and will be remembered as a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was preceded in death by her first husband, James N. Sears, and siblings, Ruth Day Watkins, Annette Day Hewitt, Rev. Ralph Day, and Robert Preston Day. Survivors include husband, Joe H. Sears of Covington; son, James N. Sears, II of St. Petersburg, FL; grandchildren, Tammy Sears Cheek, James N. Sears, III; three great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services for Mrs. Sears will be held Saturday, January 10, 2:00 PM, at the Floyd Street Chapel of Caldwell & Cowan, with Rev. John Donaldson officiating and interment following in Lawnwood Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Friday, January 9, from 5-7 PM.
