Sandra Ann Smith Hopkins of Covington passed away Friday, Jan. 31, 2014, at the age of 71. She was surrounded by family and friends. She was born Feb. 28, 1942, in Columbus. She was predeceased by her parents, Mr. J.T. and Mrs.Annie Myrtice Smith, both of Covington.

She is survived by her loving husband, Fred T. Hopkins of Covington, to whom she was married for more than 46 years. They were married on Nov. 18, 1967, at the Lovejoy United Methodist Church in Covington.

She is also survived by her son, Quinn Hopkins of Atlanta; daughter and son-in-law, Carol Ann and Tony McGiboney of Covington; grandchildren, T.J. McGiboney, Tonya McGiboney, Travis McGiboney, all of Covington; great-grandchild Aidan McGiboney of Covington; sister, Noami Jeffries of Covington; brother and sister-in-law, Jack and Mary Smith of Covington; and several nieces and nephews. A memorial service was held Feb. 4 at Lovejoy United Methodist Church, with the Revs. Rick Gravitt, Richard Noth and Gerald Varner officiating. Sandra became a member of Lovejoy United Methodist in 1956, where she served as music director for more than 40 years. She led three choirs, for children, youth, and adults and played both piano and organ. She also served as Worship Chairman, Sunday School teacher of multiple classes, Youth Leader, Church Treasurer, Recording Secretary, Bible Study Teacher and was the chair of several committees.
