Rozie Lee Smith was born Aug. 8, 1913, in Jasper County to the late Ide and Minnie Smith.

At an early age, she joined the Rock Spring Baptist Church and served faithfully until her health declined in 2017. She spent her life living in the only house she remembers, on the farm that she helped manage with her brother and sister-in-law.

Rozie loved cooking for her family, the church and friends. Her love for gardening was visible in the flower garden she tended when she was able. She loved talking about and getting gifts of flowers. Quilting was her fall and winter hobby. She made many quilts from scrap cloth and cotton for her family. Most of all she enjoyed who knew her smile. There were always friends and family stopping by to visit and talk.

On Jan. 8, 2018, God called her home to her eternal resting place. She leaves to cherish her memories, three daughters, Betty Louise Shields, of Covington, Rosetta Smith and Mary Joyce Durden, both of Mansfield; grandchildren, Bernard, Sherry, Gregory, Trophyce, Dwayne, Carla and Amelia; devoted nieces, Wyenna, Julia, Elaine, Janice and Elsie; 12 great- grandchildren, 10 great-great grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.

The memorial service was held at noon Saturday, Jan. 13 at Rock Spring Missionary Baptist Church, at 2223 County Line Road, in Mansfield, with the Rev. Steven L. Thompsons officiating.
