Mr. Roger L. Smith Sr., 79, of Conyers, died Jan. 21. The son of the late Homer and Ethel Matthews Smith, he was born in Duvall County, Fla., in 1929. Mr. Smith was retired from Eastern Airlines as an inspector and was a member of American Legion Post 77. He was preceded in death by son Roger Smith Jr.

            Surviving are wife Mrs. Betty Smith; children and spouses Georgiana and David Groome of Covington, Stephen and Cindy Smith of Oxford and Robin and Kevin Best of Rutledge; sister and brother Wuynette LeFaevre of Vero Beach, Fla., Ray Smith of Mantecu, Calif.; 10 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and other family.

            Memorial services will be at 6 p.m. Jan. 29 in the chapel of Wheeler Funeral Home with the Rev. Greg Miller officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Thursday, from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Friends may sign the on-line registry at www.wheeler funeralhome.com.
