Mr. Robert P. Burgess, 73, of Mineral Bluff, formerly of Covington, died Nov. 21. The son of the late Thomas and Katherine Bass Burgess, he was born in Rocky Mount, N.C. in 1934. He attended the University of North Carolina and was a graduate of the University of Georgia Law School. After practicing law for 10 years, Mr. Burgess moved his career into the convenience store business. He most recently owned the Youth Community Store before retiring to the mountain home he built in Mineral Bluff.

Surviving are wife Mrs. Shirley Burgess; son Robby Burgess of Covington; daughter Miss Burgess Bunn of Rocky Mount; sister Mrs. Elizabeth Bunn of Rocky Mount; brother Mr. Wayne Burgess of Baltimore, Md.; six grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. today, Nov. 26, in the chapel of Harwell-Wheeler Funeral Home. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from noon until 2 p.m. prior to the funeral. A memorial service will also be held in Rocky Mount and Mineral Bluff at a later date.
