Local well known Pharmacist, Richard E. (Dick) Bellairs, of Covington, died February 28, 2011, at Newton Medical Center in Covington at the age of 80. A native of Michigan and an avid golfer, he was the son of the late Walter and Hilma Boehmer Bellairs, and a Veteran of the U.S. Army. Mr. Bellairs was a graduate of the School of Pharmacy at Purdue University, and was co-owner and operator of Standard Pharmacy in Porterdale and Professional Court Pharmacy in Covington. He was a member of the Covington Rotary Club for over fifty years, serving as its President, and taking an active role in raising money for the Empty Stocking Fund. He was a recipient of the Paul Harris Award from Rotary International. Mr. Bellairs had been a member of Covington First United Methodist Church for thirty years, where he served as Sunday School Superintendent and was an active member in the Men’s Club. Prior to membership at Covington First United, he was a member of Julia A. Porter United Methodist Church in Porterdale. Surviving are his wife of 57 years, Betty R. Bellairs; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Marrianne and Jim Brown of Wrens; niece and husband, Mr. and Mrs. Terry Zimmerman; great-nephew, Danny Zimmerman, all of Sturgis, Michigan. Funeral Services for Mr. Bellairs will be held at 11:00 AM, Wednesday, March 2, 2011, at Covington First United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Dr. Douglas Gilreath, Dr. Royeese Stowe and Rev. Gale Thompson, officiating. Entombment will follow in Lawnwood Memorial Park.
