The Rev. Richard M. Harris Sr.,passed away on Wednesday, Feb. 7, 2018 at his home in Covington. He was born in Atlanta on June 23, 1936. Richard is survived by his wife of 60 years, Violet Alford Harris, and his children, Richard Harris Jr.(Jeanne), Rebecca Harris, William Paul Harris and Beth Thomas (Gary.)  He has grandchildren, Will Harris, Jeremy Harris, Nathan Harris, Kathleen Harris and twin granddaughters, Claire and Grace Robbins. One great grandson, Trace Harris. He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles Thomas Harris and Marian Bentley Harris, and daughter,   Mary Esther Robbins (better known as Bitsy), brother Charles Thomas Jr. Harris and two grandchildren, Lorie Michelle Williford and Jason Harris.

Dick was a member of the 1954 graduating class of Marietta. He went on to finish college, and graduated from  Emory School of Theology with a Divinity degree. He was a member of the North Georgia Conference of the United Methodist Church.

He served 11 churches in the Conference until retirement and served Sewell UMC after retirement for 12 years.

A Memorial Service will be held at Sewell UMC at 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 17. Contributions can be made to St. Jude in Memphis, Tennessee. or to the Shriners Children's Hospitals.
