Retired Major Joseph “Joe” A. Estep, age 76, of Oxford passed away February 3, 2012.  He was born December 11, 1935 in Columbus, Ohio to the late Robert Shore and Ruth Bowman Estep.  Major Estep served his country proudly for thirty years beginning his career in 1958 in the United States Air Force and then joining the United States Army in the early 1960’s.  He retired in 1988 and worked as an electronics technician at C&D Battery for a number of years, he was the past President of the Oxford Lions Club, a member of the Civil Air Patrol, a member of the Newton County R/C flyers and his call sign was “W8TSP” at the Newton County ARC. 

 

Major Estep is survived by his wife Barbara Estep and their children; Cathy and Frank Davis III and Christopher B. Estep, all of Covington along with a sister Emily Estep Badertscher, Delaware, Ohio.  He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, other family and close friends.

 

Funeral services for Major Estep will be held at 10 O’clock Wednesday, February 8, 2012 at the Chapel of J.C. Harwell & Son Funeral Home.  The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6pm until 8pm on Tuesday, February 7, 2012.  J.C.
