Rachel Garner Thomas of Covington, formerly of East Point, passed away April 30, 2014 at the age of 92. She was a long-time member of First Baptist Church in East Point. She had a very sweet spirit and will be remembered as a great caretaker of her family. Mrs. Thomas was preceded in death by her husband, C.E. Thomas; parents, James T. and Popie (Cook) Garner; and son-in-law, Robert Astin.

Survivors include daughters and son-in-law, Joyce and David Taylor of Covington; Jan Astin of McDonough; grandchildren, Heather and Cory Kloth of Winter Haven, FL, Elaine and Richard Dolan of Dacula, Cathe and Mike Fowler, Becky Mays, all of McDonough; great-grandchildren, Stephen and McKenzie Fowler; Elizabeth and Teresa Mays; Shannon, Autumn and Garner Kloth; and Ezra, Boaz, and Judah Dolan; brother and sister-in-law, Jim and Ellen Garner of Cumming.

Funeral Services for Mrs. Thomas will be held at 11:00 A.M., Saturday, May 3, 2014 at First Baptist Church in Covington, with Rev. Cory Kloth officiating, and interment following in Westview Cemetery in Atlanta. The family will receive friends at Caldwell & Cowan Funeral Home, 3134 Floyd Street, in Covington, Friday, May 2, from 6:00 – 8:00 P.M. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Alzheimer’s Association, Georgia Chapter, 41 Perimeter Center East, Suite 550, Atlanta, GA 30346 or Covington First Baptist Church Global Missions, 1139 Usher Street NE, Covington, GA 30014.
