Opal Odette Fowler, of Mansfield, died March 2, 2010, at Newton Medical Center, at the age of 80. Daughter of the late Jacob Aaron and Sally Avery Cleghorn, she was a member of First United Methodist Church of Stockbridge but locally attended The Church at Covington. Mrs. Fowler retired from Southern Bell Telephone Company with over 35 years of service and was the last of six siblings. She enjoyed flower gardening and loved her dogs. Mrs. Fowler was preceded in death by her husband, Pledger Ray Fowler, son, Michael A. Fowler and grandson, Jeremy Fowler. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Survivors include daughter and son-in-law, Dale and Don Layfield of Mansfield; son and daughters-in-law, Linda Fowler of Dublin, Steve and Cindy Fowler of Oxford; grandchildren, Christopher Fowler, Katie Askew, Stephanie Fowler, Trevor Fowler, Tonya Underwood, and Tammy Barrington; eleven great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services for Mrs. Fowler will be held on Saturday, March 6, 1:00 PM, at The Church at Covington, with Pastor David Payne officiating and interment following in Fairview Memorial Gardens in Stockbridge. The family will receive friends at Caldwell & Cowan Funeral Home, 1215 Access Road, on Friday, March 5, from 5-8 PM.
