Murell Auten of Covington, passed away December 21, 2008, at the age of 92. Mrs. Auten attended Mt. Zion Baptist Church and enjoyed fishing, crocheting, and working in her flower garden. She was preceded in death by her daughters, Kay Smith, May Smith; son-in-law, Pete Hicks; grandchildren, Jason Brock, Marcus Brock, Denise Brock; parents, Caleb and Leola Roberts Segars. Survivors include her daughters and son-in-law, Cora Hicks of Gainesville, Jessie and Bill Carney of Covington; sons and daughters-in-law, L.D. and Naomi Brock, Bill and Mary Brock, Harold and Diane Ayers, all of Covington, Talmadge and Sara Ayers of Oxford; 15 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; 7 great-great grandchildren; sisters and brother-in-law, Pearline Lofter of Toccoa, Pauline and Jim Whisenhunt, Bittie Martin, all of Carnesville, GA, Sister Ross of Lincolnton, NC; brother, B.D. Segars of Carnesville; several nieces and nephews. Funeral Services for Mrs. Auten were held Tuesday, December 23, 2008, 2:00 PM, Chapel of Caldwell & Cowan Funeral Home, 1215 Access Rd. Rev. Miguel A. Velez officiated and interment followed in Lawnwood Memorial Park. Donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, 1684 Barnett Shoals Rd., Athens, GA 30605.
