Nell Pennington Blair Mundy of Covington passed away February 15, 2015. She was 98, her birthday being December 11, 1916. The daughter of W.B.R. Pennington and Annie Gay Pennington, she graduated from high school and business school. Mrs. Mundy moved to Atlanta and was employed by Atlanta Pharmaceutical Company and thirty years with Scott Paper Company. Back in Covington, she transferred her membership to the Covington First United Methodist Church, where she had been baptized and married. During this time Mrs. Mundy was the President of the United Methodist Churchwomen, an Administrative Board member, Callie Cohen Circle, and Sunday school. Mrs. Mundy was a life member of the Covington Garden Club and the Georgia State Garden Club. She helped establish and was a charter member of the Satsuki Garden Club. For several years she was a member of the Covington Service Guild, Newton Historical Society, and Friends of the Library. Mrs. Mundy’s hobbies were golf, bridge, gardening, sewing, reading and walking. She walked a mile even in her nineties. Former children on the block would come back and see her and thank her for being so nice to them when they were kids. Mrs. Mundy was married to Earl Blair for 53 years, after his death she married in 1999 and is survived by her husband Thomas G. Mundy, Jr. She is also survived by her step son Daniel Mundy and his wife Diane and her step grandson Stewart Mundy in addition to several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services for Mrs. Mundy will be held at 11:00am Wednesday, February 18, 2015 at the Covington First United Methodist Church with Reverend Doctor Douglas Gilreath and Reverend Jan McCoy officiating. Burial will follow at Covington City Cemetery. The family will receive friends at J.C. Harwell and Son Funeral Home on Tuesday, February 17, 2015 from 6:00pm until 8:00pm. J.C.
