Mrs. Mildred L. Costley, age 96, of Covington passed away Friday, February 7, 2014.  She was born January 19, 1918 in Jasper County to the late Edgar and Mava Kitchens Cunard.  Mrs. Costley moved to Covington around 1935 and met her husband while working as a waitress at a restaurant located on the square.  Not long after moving to Covington she became a member of the First Baptist Church and is currently the third oldest member.  She was very active in her church.  Mrs. Costley was a member of the Lamplighters Sunday school class, she was also a member of the WMU and of the 3 R’s, she served as the chairperson of the Hostess Committee for many years, and enjoyed working with the Community Food Pantry.  Mrs. Costley was a past Worthy Matron and a lifetime member of the Order of the Eastern Star.   She enjoyed playing bingo and bridge and was a loving, caring and generous wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother.  Mrs. Costley was preceded in death by her husband Mr. J. Olin Costley.

 

She is survived by her children; Kenneth Costley of Marietta, Michael and Sandra Costley of Covington and Gail and Earl Cook of Sandy Springs along with 8 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren.  She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, other family and close friends.

 

Funeral services for Mrs. Costley will be held at 11 o’clock Tuesday, February 11, 2014 at the First Baptist Church of Covington with Reverend Charles Reynolds officiating.  Interment will follow at Lawnwood Memorial Park.  The family will receive friends at J.C. Harwell and Son Funeral Home from 4:00pm until 6:00pm on Monday, February 10, 2014.  Flowers are accepted or in lieu of flowers donations may be made to either the Covington Community Food Pantry at the First Presbyterian Church of Covington or to the First Baptist Church of Covington Sanctuary Renovation Fund.  J.C.
