Mrs. Leslie (C. B.) Watts, known by many as Mama Watts, of Covington, died January 8, 2009, at the age of 97. Daughter of the late Bob Frank and Tessie Mae Gaston Harper, she was a lifelong resident of Newton County and was co-owner and operator of Watts Grocery with her late husband, Daniel Leslie Watts from 1959-1974. Mrs. Watts was a charter member of Gospel Tabernacle, formerly The Church of Our Lord Jesus Christ, in Porterdale and enjoyed singing, especially gospel songs and ballads. She was preceded in death by her son, James D. Watts. Survivors include daughter and son-in-law, Allen and Ruth Watts Robinson of Covington; son and daughters-in-law, Bobby L. and Becky Watts and Lois Watts all of Covington; grandchildren, Kenneth and Michelle Watts, Gerald Watts, Barry and Rosene Watts, Bruce and Amanda Watts; great-grandchildren, Landan Watts, Lauren Watts, Lisa Watts, Candace Watts, Brecken Watts, Braxton Watts; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services for Mrs. Watts will be held Sunday, January 11, 2:00 PM, at the chapel of Caldwell & Cowan, 1215 Access Road, with Dr. Jerry Patterson and Pastor Darrell Payne officiating and interment following in Lawnwood Memorial Park. The family received friends at Caldwell & Cowan, Saturday, January 10, from 5-8 PM.
