Mrs. Lavancy Benton Henderson

Mrs. Lavancy Benton Henderson, age 87, of Covington passed away July 25, 2014. She was born in Newton County, Georgia to the late Seals Benton and Ella Claude Benton.

Mrs. Henderson attended Washington Street School. In 1945 she married Isaac Henderson, Sr. and had six children. She joined Sims Chapel Baptist Church at an early age and after marriage moved her membership to Saint Paul AME Church, where she became a member of the Senior Choir. Primarily she was a homemaker. In later years, Mrs. Henderson was employed with C.R. Bard Inc. in Covington, Georgia until her retirement. She was preceded in death by her husband Isaac Henderson, Sr.

Mrs. Henderson is survived by her children, Isaac, Jr., Janie H. Giles, Jean (Boykin) Edwards, Thurman and Emerson; grandchildren, Bridgitte Giles Lawrence, LaNedra Giles, Dr. Rachelle Edwards (Marcus) Biddles, Tonya Edwards, Shayna Henderson Clemmons, Brandy Branche; great grandchildren, Bryant, Lomonte’, De’Mario, DeMecko, Branton, MarCiona, DeAnte, Cordric, Zion and McKenzie; sisters, Lucille Dunlap, Willie Kay Durden and Bettye Fallen, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Funeral services for Mrs. Henderson were held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, July 31 at St. Paul AME. Interment followed at Lawnwood Memorial Park 1111 Access Road, Covington, Georgia.

Honorary Pallbearers were Mr. Eddie Baker, Mr. James Mullins, Mr. Jessie Clements, Mr. Timothy Reed, Mr. Melvin Clements, Mr. Leon Smith, Mr. Willie Jones, Mr. Linnell Thomas, Mr. Billy Middleton and Mr. Charles Williams.
Pallbearers were Mr. Eddie L. Baker, Dr. Melvin O. Baker, Rev. Willie Gene Davis, Mr. Ricky Reed, Mr. Leon Reed and Mr. Gregory Reed.

Honorary Floral Bearers were Mrs. Mary Baker, Mrs. Edith Camp, Mrs. Leola Gibbs, Ms. Beulah Johnson, Mrs. Pocahantas Reed, Ms. Vivian Sawyers and Ms. Lizzie Ruth Smith.

Floral Bearers were Mrs. Gwendolyn Benton, Ms. Geraldine Cullins, Ms. Brenda Gail Reed, Ms. Ann Spearman, Ms. Davidlyn Strong and Mrs. Warnell Williams.
