Mrs. Joyce L. Kitchens, age 88, of Oxford passed away Sunday, Feb. 16, 2020. She was born in Rockdale County on Feb. 5, 1932 to Harvey W. Sr and Effie Womack Kiser who have preceded her in death.
Mrs. Kitchens grew up in Conyers and in the Cornish Mountain community of Walton and Newton Counties. She established her relationship with the Lord early in life at Honey Creek Baptist Church and was a longtime member of Cornish Mountain Baptist Church. Mrs. Kitchens loved blue grass music, she played the bass fiddle, the piano, the accordion and sang. She became a wonderful artist later in life, some of her paintings will be displayed during her visitation. Mrs. Kitchens attended Athens Technical College and was a Licensed Practical Nurse working at Newton General Hospital, Clinical Arts Home Health Care, and Southern Plantation Assisted Living in Loganville. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, great-great grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend.
Mrs. Kitchens was preceded in death by her husband, Lewis F. Kitchens, her daughters Angelia Kitchens Harper and Faye Kitchens Eskew, and her granddaughter, Amber Grant. She is survived by her children Cynthia Marvel and husband Phil of Oxford, Shane Kitchens and wife Amy of Covington and Renee Grant of Bacliff, Texas. Her 12 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild survive her as well, along with her brother Starling Kiser and wife Mabel of Conyers and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services for Mrs. Kitchens will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 21, 2020 at Cornish Mountain Baptist Church with Reverend Randell Allgood and Dr. Randy Reese officiating. Interment will follow at the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at J.C. Harwell and Son Funeral Home from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 20, 2020. The family has selected J.C.
