Mrs. Essie Katherine “Kate” Almand, 84 of Covington passed away January 10, 2011 at Rockdale Hospital. Mrs. Almand was one of 14 children born in Griffin, Ga. to the late Willie Lee and Lettie Florine Murphy Deaton. She is preceded in death by her husband David Almand and her daughter Brenda Garner. She loved to cook. She cooked with Natalie Dupree at Rich’s Cooking School for many years and cooked at her daughter’s restaurant, “Brenda’s Place” in Social Circle. She was also a member of Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church in Social Circle. Mrs. Almand is survived by her son Holland Almand and Cathy Cassidy of Eatonton, Ga., daughter Teresa and Richard Fricke of Covington, 9 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, 9 siblings and many nieces and nephews. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother, aunt and sister.

Funeral services for Mrs. Almand will be held on Saturday January 15, 2011 at 2:00 PM from the chapel of Harwell-Wheeler Funeral Home with Rev. Michael Dunbar officiating. Interment will follow at New Covington Cemetery. The family will receive friends Saturday from 12:30 to 2:00 PM at the funeral home. Flowers will be accepted or contributions may be made to Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church,  55 Hwy 229 Social Circle, Ga. 30025. Friends may sign the online register at www.wheelerfuneralhome.com.
