Mrs. Cordie J. Stokes of Covington, GA.  died Friday November 19, 2010 at Abbey Hospice.  Mrs. Stokes was born on May 30, 1924 in Loganville, GA.  to Simon and Lillie Tuck Johnson. She was a member of The Church At Covington which she dearly loved and was involved in the senior activities at her church. She enjoyed cooking, gardening, visting friends and family. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She was recently honored at her church as mother of the year.

Mrs. Stokes is survived by her daughter and son in law Joan Stokes Byrd and Donald Byrd of Covington GA, son and daughter in law Fred and Janie Stokes of Conyers GA, sister in law Ruth Steadham of Porterdale, GA, granchildren Mark Byrd, Michelle Renoit, Judi Stokes, Jill Palencia, Heather Yates, Stephanie Matthes, Great grandchildren, Joshua, Justin, Andrew and Braelyn Byrd, Cody, Trey, Isabella and Katlyn Renoit, Kaila Palencia, Amillio Avina, Jake and Emilee Watkins, Ashton & SkylaYates, Charlotte Rita Matthes and great great grandchild Chase Szarowicz and several nieces and nephews.  She is preceded in death by her husband of 61 years Robert Stokes, daughter, Rita Stokes Reed, parents Simon and Lillie Johnson and sisters Effie Brown, Clara Bankston, Sara Payne, Laura Payne and brother Grady Johnson.

Services will be held at 2:00 PM on Monday November 22, 2010 in the Chapel of Wheeler Funeral Home with Rev. David Payne officiating.  Interment will be at Lawnwood Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday, November 21, 2010 from 5:00-8:00PM. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
