Charlyne Aaron Varner, age 87, died April 13, 2014 at Abbey Hospice in Social Circle, Georgia. She was predeceased by her husband Roy Varner and by her parents Rabun and Ellie May Aaron. She was married to Roy for 66 years. She played the role of devoted helpmate to him as he served 16 years as chairman of Newton County Board of Commissioners. Her personality was to avoid the limelight so politics were a challenge for her. Nevertheless, she took care of all the details which led to Roy’s success. She was devoted to her family. She made sacrifices so that her children could have successful lives. Her greatest joy was her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She took pleasure in following their various activities, and it was a special day for her when any of her family dropped by to see her. She also enjoyed her weekly visits to the Magic Mirror Beauty Salon where she was a loyal customer for 20 years. Not only could she have her hair styled the way she wanted, she also enjoyed some of the best gossip around. She and her friends shared some of the special challenges of growing older and the weekly trip was uplifting.
She leaves behind a legacy of love and devotion. She is survived by her daughter Anita Varner, her son Aaron Varner (Ann), her granddaughters Ginger Johnson (John) and Tuesday Rawls (Todd), her great-grandchildren Skye Johnson, Jonathan Johnson, Jet Rawls, and Riley Rawls, her sister Grace Johnson, brothers J.W. Aaron (Margaret) of Albertville, AL, and Dan Aaron (Ruth), sisters-in-law Jane Varner of Fayetteville, GA and Frances Armstrong (Bruce) of Athens, GA.
