Mr. W.A. “Billy” McElreath, age 81, of Covington passed away Sunday, February 08, 2015. He was born March 29, 1933 in Madison County Georgia to Mr. and Mrs. A. L. McElreath who has preceded him in death. Mr. McElreath served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War. He retired from the City of Covington and also owned and operated McElreath Garage in Covington for many years. A longtime member of the First Baptist Church of Covington “Mr. Billy” could be found serving on just about any committee throughout the years, from the building and grounds committee to the transportation committee along with delivering meals to the home bound on Wednesday nights. He loved children and worked with the 4 and 5 year old Sunday school for over 40 years. Mr. McElreath was preceded in death by a brother Lewis McElreath and a sister Nell Durand.
He is survived by his wife Helen B. McElreath, his sisters; Lois Hammond of Coivngton and Dr. Jean Nagy (Allen) of Centerville, Ohio his brother Thomas McElreath (Carol) of Rutledge his brother-in-law C.B. Ballew (Debbie) of Lilburn along with his nieces and nephews, other family and close friends.
Funeral services for Mr. McElreath will be held at 3 o’clock Tuesday, February 10, 2015 at the First Baptist Church of Covington with Dr. Robert Faulkner and Reverend Charles Reynolds officiating. Interment will follow at Lawnwood Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at J.C. Harwell and Son Funeral Home from 6pm until 8pm on Monday, February 9, 2015. Flowers are accepted or donations to the debt retirement at the First Baptist Church of Covington may be made in honor of Mr. W.A. “Billy” McElreath. J.C.
